🍎 Parents and teachers need help. I do the legwork so they (and you) don’t have to. TKSST serves up STEAM, history, and culture-focused content from museums, organizations, artists, creators, and educators around the web.

💻 Good screen time. Videos are pre-screened, smart, and engaging. Avoid ‘the Wild West’ of YouTube algorithms. Feel better about what kids watch.

🌈 Discover new wonders. Start conversations, spark questions, and inspire offline exploration for all ages. Or watch together for fun. No agenda required. Over 500 smart videos were added to TKSST’s collections in 2021.

Rion Nakaya

The Kid Should See This is a one-person shop. For ten years, I’ve spent thousands of hours sifting through YouTube and Vimeo to build this collection, first as a side project and now as my full-time job.

Every week, I add to it, maintain it, and improve it to help expand how these 5,000 videos and their creators might connect with more educators, librarians, parents, and communities.

When classrooms moved online in 2020, TKSST’s traffic almost tripled—evidence that this handy collection of STEAM-focused content is needed by educators and parents. TKSST’s costs—site hosting, dev support, and newsletter—also increased significantly with the traffic, but since kids were now using TKSST for remote classwork, I resolved to keep the site ad-free. That’s when I turned to our readers to stay up and running.

Membership pays for site hosting, support from an awesome developer, our free newsletter, and a basic salary that guarantees that I can stay focused on this project while supporting my family.

There’s nothing like The Kid Should See This anywhere online. It’s a rare, award-winning collection of videos that aims to mix the BBC, PBS, NPR, and only the kindest corners of Reddit. Your support is an investment in a free online space that celebrates curiosity, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, kindness, and wonder.

Thank you for making it all the way down the page and for your consideration. I hope you’ll join me in this mission. – Rion Nakaya, Founder & Editor
