A Swiss student team built an electric racecar from scratch and proceeded to shatter the world record for electric vehicle acceleration. Their EV, named Mythen, accelerated from zero to 62mph in less than a second.

Officially, that’s 0 to 100 km/h in 0.956 seconds.

The team hails from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Driver Kate Maggetti accomplished the victory in a distance of 40.35 feet or 12.3 meters. For context, the width of a pro basketball court is 50 feet or 15 meters.

According to the press release, Guinness World Records confirmed that Mythen set the EV world acceleration record, an achievement that bests the University of Stuttgart GreenTeam‘s September 2022 record of 1.461 seconds.
