The Thrill of Skiing, an Awesome Alaskan Kids video

“Ida loves to ski on the mountains and trails near her home in Alaska. Whether downhill or skate skiing, there’s always a new skill to master, not to mention the beautiful winter scenery. The chairlift may be the best part!”

In this Awesome Alaskan Kids video from PBS Kids’ Molly of Denali, Ida shares The Thrill of Skiing on steep hills or across the landscape with her grandpa and her dog.

At the end of an active day, Ida and her family cook up fresh tortillas for a taco dinner.

“First, you add maseca, which is masa. That’s seca, which means ‘dry.’ It’s, like, really dry flour. And then we mix it with water. The next step, I take some of the masa and I roll it into a ball.”

The balls of dough are then flattened with a tortilla press, making thin, flat tortillas that are then cooked o a carbon-steel comal, a traditional cooking griddle.

Ida and her brother Rio complete their tacos with tomatoes, beans, and lettuce.
